What MEST Africa actually is

MEST (the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology) runs the most immersive founder program on the continent: a residential year in Accra — seven months of training followed by four months of incubation — with flights, housing and healthcare fully sponsored. The program has refocused around AI startups, and top graduating ventures receive pre-seed funding of up to $100K, with MEST taking equity in the companies it funds.

Selection is brutal (thousands of applications for a couple dozen seats), and the model targets individuals as much as teams: you can enter as a talented builder and leave as a funded founder with co-founders met in the program.

What they look for

The bar you need to clear before the application is worth sending.

  • High-potential individual builders from West and East Africa — priority Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya.

  • Technical or entrepreneurial spikes over polished business plans.

  • Ability to commit to a fully residential year in Accra.

  • AI-native ambitions — the current program is explicitly AI-focused.
