The K-Startup Grand Challenge is the Korean government's program for attracting foreign startups: an annual, phased competition beginning online and moving to hosted phases in Korea with visa support, office space and staged funding — travel support for the top 40, demo-day prizes from ₩5M to ₩100M for the top 20, and commercialization grants up to ₩50M for the top 8. Everything is equity-free.
The implicit deal is market entry: Korea wants your startup operating there, and the program hands you the soft-landing package — legal setup, corporate connections to the chaebol ecosystem, and a physical base in Pangyo — that would otherwise be the hard part.
The bar you need to clear before the application is worth sending.
Foreign (non-Korean) startups genuinely interested in the Korean market.
Pre-seed/seed teams able to send founders to Korea for the hosted phases.
Sectors matching Korean industry demand — AI, bio, fintech, energy.
Competitive stamina: funding is staged by performance across phases.
Before you apply
Every question K-Startup Grand Challenge asks — problem, traction, business model, team, market size — maps to work you can finish first. Build your startup profile in StartupKit, run the readiness score, and walk into the application with real answers instead of blank fields. Free, no card.
Build your startup profile freeNo — the program is entirely equity-free: staged travel support, demo-day prizes up to ₩100M and commercialization grants up to ₩50M, plus visa and settlement support.
Phase 1 is online; advancing teams are hosted in Korea for the later phases, with the program supporting visas and workspace in Pangyo.
Once a year, on a roughly July-to-April arc across its three phases.
